Professional Horse Trainers combine expertise in education, horsemanship, horse behavior and language and specific skills like reining, cutting or jumping, to help teach horses and horse owners how things are done in the equestrian world.
I have been involved with horses for many years including guiding and packing, starting colts and working on cattle ranches. I have had my own horse transportation business, which took me all over North America. One day, while driving across the country, the thought occurred to me that what I really wanted to do was just ride and get better with horses. So the journey began…
I continued traveling and took the time to ride with many great trainers. My knowledge increased but I still felt like I was missing something. I had always known of John Lyons and his methods. I tried a few and when they worked quickly and easily, I wanted to learn more. So with the love and support of my wife, Tara, and family and friends, I decided to attend the John & Josh Lyons Certification Program in Parachute, Colorado. Upon arriving and meeting John and Josh, I knew this was where I needed to be. Any question I asked or anything I requested to learn was discussed and then taught in class.
In the Fall of 2007, I graduated as a John & Josh Lyons’ Certified Trainer and Instructor. Little did I know, that the best was yet to come. By personal invite, I attended the Josh Lyons’ Accreditation Program, which is very intense and focuses on finishing reining horses. I completed this program in February 2008 and became the first Josh Lyons Accredited Trainer in Canada.
In January 2011 I complete the Lyons Legacy Master Trainer Program. This program was designed by Josh Lyons to equip a select few Certified and Accredited Trainers to continue their education and work with Josh very closely to develop the skills necessary for teaching other student the Lyons method of training. Graduates of the "Lyons Legacy Master Trainer Course" have attained the highest level of training currently provided by Lyons Legacy, LLC., and become eligible to be licensed, "Lyons Legacy Horsemanship Training Instructors." Master Trainers are given the opportunity to teach steps one through three in Lyons programs.
